Supreme Group Releases Corporate Social Responsibility Report

November 18, 2013: Supreme Group recently released its first major Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) report, which details the company’s ethical, social and environmental performance globally in 2012.Corporate Reponsibility

The report, which has been published on Supreme’s corporate website, was compiled using the GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) standards and covers topics related to ethical workplaces; investing in employees; safe and healthy business practices; respecting the environment; and supporting local communities. In recent years, Supreme’s CSR strategy has been strengthened by the implementation of a number of sustainable initiatives across its global operations; reaffirming the company’s commitment to the highest industry benchmarks.

“We have been actively integrating sustainable business practices across our organization and have achieved some impressive milestones along the way,” said Stephen Orenstein, Principal, Supreme Group. “This report is an important step for us to achieve our goal of embedding a socially responsible culture in our operations, and also enables us to share the positive contributions we make around the world with our stakeholders.”

“The road to sustainability is not without challenges. We operate in many countries ranked as among the most corrupt and difficult places to do business. We serve clients that are based in hostile environments, where there is often a lack of legal infrastructure and systems. To address this, we have established global standards to help ensure that our values are upheld wherever we operate, and that we conduct business fairly and honestly in all areas around the world,” Orenstein added.

Supreme has established and maintains a formal Ethics and Compliance program that ensures adherence to the highest workplace standards, in addition to providing a worldwide hotline that gives employees and stakeholders an anonymous channel to ask questions, express concerns, and raise issues about workplace activities. Supreme’s Code of Business Ethics and Conduct was also implemented to ensure that all business is conducted legally and to the highest ethical standards. The Code has been translated into 13 languages and applies to all employees, at all levels of the organization, including management.

One of Supreme’s strategic objectives in 2012 was to promote and further entrench ethical business practices across the company. Some of the initiatives taken included creating new guidance to provide additional clarity to staff on key issues; developing and implementing a group‑wide training and awareness program; and the strengthening of audit capabilities and whistle-blowing processes.

As a socially responsible company, Supreme launched the Supreme Foundation in 2009 to support underprivileged children in local communities where it operates. The Foundation focuses on improving the health, education, safety and living conditions of disadvantaged children in Afghanistan, Ivory Coast and Bosnia. Through its work, Supreme Foundation has helped hundreds of children and families survive amidst the ravages of brutal winters, wars, and severe deprivation.

Furthermore, Supreme’s commitment to, and adoption of, internationally recognized standards for quality, health and safety within its operations has earned it the ISO 9001 and OHSAS 18001 certifications for quality management and occupational health and safety management systems. In 2012, Supreme also implemented an Environmental Management System and earned ISO 14001 Environmental Management accreditation, as well as completing its first Carbon Footprint audit.

“In addition to recycling programs, we have implemented a number of initiatives to reduce our impact on the environment. For instance, in our Afghan-based catering facilities we have introduced automatic hand dryers to replace the use of paper hand towels. With most of our facilities now fitted with these dryers, we have completely eliminated the transportation and use of paper towels from the supply chain. By switching from paper hand towels to the hand dryers, we were able to save an estimated 80 tons of CO2 from being released to the atmosphere from our Kandahar facilities alone,” said Victoria Frost, Supreme’s Director of Corporate Development, Marketing & Communications.

“Corporate responsibility initiatives therefore are an integral part of our business. Looking ahead, we aim to bring further coherence to our programs and improve our measurement and data collection techniques, which will allow us to expand our reporting in crucial areas and develop new initiatives that align with our CSR efforts,” Frost concluded.

Supreme Foundation Provides 2,000 Disadvantaged Kabul Students with Computer Lab

November 14, 2013 – Supreme Foundation, a registered charitable trust created by the global supply chain solutions provider Supreme Group, has recently opened a computer lab to support the education and provide computer access to over 2,000 disadvantaged students attending Khushal Khan #1 High School in Kabul.

The project involved the procurement and installation of computer workstations, projectors and printers, in addition to the refurbishment of the classroom’s electrics, cables, doors and security system. Supreme Foundation has also sponsored the appointment of a full-time IT teacher to teach computer studies to all students. It is the first time that computers will be available at the school for these students and will provide an unprecedented level of education and technology access.

Mohammad Nabi Sahab, Director of Education for the Afghan Ministry of Borders and Tribal Affairs, said: “Until now, our students have been learning computer studies theoretically, without any practical experience. It is difficult for our students to become professionals and start their careers without any computer skills. This donation will make a very big and important impact on the lives of our students and we are extremely grateful.”

A service contract is included in the sponsorship program, which means that all equipment will be serviced by computer engineers every week. Quarterly reviews will also be held at the school to test the children on their IT skills progress. The students will be taught about basic computer hardware, Windows operating systems, MS Office, typing skills, various software programs, how to use email and the internet, and how to pursue further studies in Information Technology.

“We worked closely with the Ministry of Borders and Tribal Affairs to first understand what was required in schools,” said Victoria Frost, Supreme Group’s Director of Communications and Treasurer of Supreme Foundation. “We discovered that not only is the IT education is very poor, but qualified teachers are also rare and there is almost no access to computers. We are therefore assured that by investing in this school’s computer lab, we are guaranteeing the education of thousands of students. We are proud to be delivering a brighter future for these children,” she added.

Kushal Khan #1 School was established in 1949 for children living in the border areas of Afghanistan, and many of the school’s graduates have become important social figures such as ministers, politicians, writers, defense force leaders, among others. Today around 2,000 students, aged between 12 to 21 years, attend the school from all provinces; as the school aims to encourage future stability by uniting students in education, regardless of their ethnicity and tribal backgrounds.

“We established the Supreme Foundation in 2009 with the aim of investing in community projects that make a real difference in people’s lives.  We are delighted to have achieved excellent results that have fostered hope and given people better chances in life,” said Stephen Orenstein, Principal, Supreme Group.

Supreme Foundation aims to alleviate hardship and improve the health, education and living conditions of disadvantaged children in conflict areas and remote regions around the world where Supreme Group operates. The non-profit organization helps children to develop the skills, knowledge and experience to lead successful, sustainable lives and contribute to their families, communities and countries. The Foundation has made substantial investments in schools, healthcare facilities, and housing developments in Bosnia, the Ivory Coast and Afghanistan.

For more than a decade, Supreme Group has successfully and reliably supported the U.K. Armed Forces in operations and exercises in Germany, Poland, Norway, Belize, Oman, Bosnia, Kosovo, Sierra Leone, Afghanistan and Iraq.  Supreme has also played a large role in the administration of the worldwide food supply contract for the MoD in international operations since 1997.  When the new contract begins, it will mark the first time that Supreme will be providing support to the U.K. MoD outside of operational deployments.

“This is an exciting project that reflects the MoD’s continued confidence in our proven ability to deliver rapid and reliable results,” said Stephen Orenstein, Principal, Supreme Group. “The MoD appointed several companies to provide worldwide aviation fuel services and we are very happy to have been awarded a significant portion of the total business.”

“We are proud to be Britain’s trusted partner of choice in providing proven supply chain solutions to the U.K. Military, EU and Commonwealth government departments both within the home countries and across deployments worldwide,” Orenstein added.
